IN BLOOM

If you thought you had to jet all the way to Japan for some of the world’s finest blossoms, or perhaps, you slightly missed the blossom boat across London’s streets this spring, fear not. With its fierce Chinese delicacies and cuisine, Kym’s is the new destination with perhaps one of the most-beautiful interiors, too.

Located in London’s ever-evolving City and heart of the banking district, Kym’s has undoubtedly added a feminine kick to spice up surroundings. Opened autumn last year courtesy of Chinese chef extraordinaire, Andrew Wong, Kym’s is positioned snugly in the Bloomberg Arcade and its ‘new European quarters’.

Heralded as a premium yet casual, modern restaurant, expect high design. The architecture and design has been completed by west London firm Michaelis Boyd. With soft colour palette of muted pinks and delicate greens, the space is mesmerising. Complemented with grades of copper, rich plum, dark wood and terrazzo flooring, Kym’s is a dichotomy of sensational design no doubt reflective of the restaurant’s roots.

Perhaps the real wow factor comes by form of a magnificent, five-metre high cherry blossom tree that sits gladly by a smooth, curved staircase that links the main restaurant space to the alluring bar. As a true nod to Chinese heritage and tradition, the tree has been placed to signify female power and beauty. The permanent installation further embodies the yin to the yang of London’s busting corporate centre so to harmonise and balance all that fall for Kym’s worldly charms.

The restaurant’s namesake is in respect of Andrew’s parent’s restaurant they owned in Victoria in 1985. Spending his childhood at the space, is undoubtedly the greatest homage to his parents and their food legacy.

“My food has always been about the journey: the history of China and the cultures of its gastronomic regions. Kym’s will be no different really but this time it’s about my community and my own journey. The name is actually something very personal to me and my family.”

As a magnitude of contemporary Chinese cuisine, Kym’s will uniquely bring together select craftsmen from Chinatown in London’s Soho to champion the community’s creativity and artisanal produce. Expect sharing platters, lemongrass salads and a modern take of the traditional duck pancakes.

With top reviews from some of London’s most-iconic food critics, we will quite simply have everything, including a pic underneath the blossom tree, of course.
